For the second year in a row, Maxima Latvia has received a high Platinum rating in the Institute for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility’s (InCSR) Sustainability Index. As part of this rating, InCSR evaluated Maxima Latvija’s corporate strategy, direct and indirect impact management, and its relationship with employees, society and business partners.

To strengthen its partnership with leading Latvian food producers, Maxima Latvija plans on procuring additional products from local brands worth a further 30 million Euro, ensuring that customers are given the best long-term price in the market. The additional product procurements will be from Latvia’s leading producers, such as Laima, Spilva, Lāči, Putnu Fabrika Ķekava, Nākotne, Latvijas Piens, Abavas Dārzi and many other beloved brands.

Maxima Latvija in collaboration with smart energy provider Ignitis Latvija installed  first solar power station in Latvia on the roof of Maxima XXX store in Riga,  A. Saharova Street 20 A. The total area of the solar power station is 1182.7 m2 and operates at a power of 176 kW. This is currently the first power station in Latvia to be installed on a supermarket roof, and is predicted to generate 186,666 kWh per year, providing almost 10% of the operating energy consumed by the store.

The audited turnover of “Maxima Latvija” in 2020 reached 878 million euro, a 5 % increase compared to 2019. This is a slight year-to-year drop by 2.7 % from the 7.7% growth in 2019. This was caused by the pandemic and overall market trends.

Today, April 29th, the Maxima X store at 1 Dižozolu Street, Riga, reopened after reconstruction in accordance with the strictest epidemiological safety measures. The store will provide convenient grocery shopping to the residents of the Ziepniekkalns neighbourhood, as well as offering a modern work environment for the 19 employees of the renovated store. To alleviate employee workloads and increase everyday efficiency, Maxima is the first retailer in Latvia to to equip an entire store with only electronic price labels. With an investment of more than 100,000 Euro, the 1-k1 Pilsoņu Street Maxima X store in the Āgenskalns neighbourhood of Riga has installed almost 12,000 electronic price labels. This will ease employees’ workload and save the almost 2,000 hours of work per year which used to be spent on changing paper labels.
