December 03, 2020

Maxima Latvija has launched a mobile checkout service, which unique in the Baltics, for fast, convenient and safer shopping. Scan&Go enables shoppers to scan products using Maxima mobile app, place them in their bag, and pay for their goods in a special payment area without removing the products from their bag. This is the first shopping solution of its kind in the Baltics, featuring a scanner function in the mobile shopping app combined with a convenient payment area. Investments in the scheme total 150,000 Euro, and it is currently available in the Maxima XXX store in Akropole shopping centre.

“The influence of COVID-19 has resulted in a year of digital evolution, a time when we are introducing new tools at lightning speed to improve the shopping experience while increasingly taking into account customer and employee safety. These new developments come in addition to existing digital solutions like the use of artificial intelligence for monitoring shelf stocking, electronic price tags, increasing numbers of digital screens in stores, new self-service checkouts, and our mobile app with payment options. The Scan&Go solution with separate payment area makes shopping very convenient and fast, as well as ensuring contactless shopping, which is particularly important during this pandemic and gives further protection to customers and employees. This unique service, which allows a range of functions to be completed through one app, is modern and has been created with today’s requirements in mind, which is confirmed by the number of app users: almost 70,000 downloads within six months,” explains Maxima Latvija CEO Viktors Troicins.

Troicins continues: “Currently, this service is available in one store, the Maxima XXX in Akropole shopping centre, although we would be willing to introduce this service quickly to other Maxima stores. This requires additional changes to our checkout systems and, if the regulations overseen by the State Revenue Service were flexible enough to enable us to introduce new services to our customers faster, we could make shopping even safer during the pandemic. That’s why we have entered into an active dialogue with lawmakers and the relevant institutions in an attempt to bring temporary regulations into force during the pandemic. In the current circumstances, it would serve as another important solution for providing convenient, safe shopping.”

The steps for using the Scan&Go function of the Maxima mobile app are very simple:
  • Open the Scan&Go page in the Maxima app;
  • If you do not have your own bag, select a shopping bag in store and scan its barcode using your smartphone;
  • Start shopping by scanning your selected products and placing them in your bag;
  • Once all your products have been scanned and placed in your bag, go to the special payment zone;
  • Once in the payment zone, scan the QR code, select your payment method and pay for your purchases with the app, bank card or gift card, or pay up to 99% of the purchase with your collected MAXIMA money.

The Maxima app is available on Android, iOS and Huawei operating systems. Existing users must update the app in their app store if they do not see the Scan&Go section in their app. In addition to the new Scan&Go function, Maxima app users will be able to monitor the size of their shopping baskets, check product prices, conveniently view current special offers, use their virtual Paldies card, find their nearest Maxima store, and other benefits.
