Maxima Significantly Extends Network of Self-Service Checkouts in Latvia
To improve the convenience and experience of clients, Maxima Latvija continues to develop the network of self-service checkouts and has installed 55 new self-service checkouts in 13 Maxima stores in Latvia.
By investing a total of 661 846,00 euros in the second quarter of this year, Maxima Latvija has introduced self-service checkouts in 11 more stores in Riga, Salaspils, Kekava and Limbazi and has increased their number in two stores – in Riga and Jurmala.
Maxima Latvija continues to improve the shopping environment for its customers. Since 2009, when we were the first to start the introduction of self-service checkouts models, they have become an integral part of modern shopping, which is especially convenient when making small purchases. We are introducing increasingly more self-service checkouts not only in Maxima XX and Maxima XXX format stores, but also in Maxima X format stores, as well as in the new convenience stores or small format Maxima Express stores,” Maxima Latvija Board Member Kristīne Āboltiņa commented.
Currently self-service checkouts are available in 41 Maxima stores. Within this year it is planned to introduce self-service checkouts in nine more Maxima stores in Riga, Valmiera, Saldus, Ikšķile and Iecava, thus offering fast and convenient payment services to a wider range of customers.
As before, the self-service checkouts of Maxima Latvija stores allow buyers to pay for their purchases with bank payment cards, including contactless payment cards, and in several stores at these registers it is also possible to pay in cash. In all self-service checkouts the buyers can earn deposits in their Paldies loyalty cards and also use these deposits when paying. It is also possible to pay using Maxima Latvija gift certificates and Uzņēmumu karte company cards.
Self-service checkouts not only make shopping easier for clients, but also reduces the amount of work for employees. One checkouts clerk serves the average of 400 to 600 customers per day, but in total at all Maxima Latvija stores more than 300 thousand residents shop every day.
The extension of the network of self-service checkouts is part of the Maxima Latvija investment program for this year, the goal of which is to improve the customer shopping experience by investing more than 23 million euros. Maxima Latvija is planning on reconstructing 15 stores in Riga and the regions, as well as open five various format stores throughout the country, including several Maxima Express concept stores.
