Today, 9 January 2020, the Maxima store at 20a Saharova Street has reopened to customers after 6 months of reconstruction work; the Maxima XX store has been transformed into the eighth larger-format Maxima XXX store in Riga, offering convenient shopping customers and better work environment for professionals. In renovating the store, investments totalling more than 11 million Euro have been made—this is so far the most ambitious investment in opening a single store.
“We are pleased to unveil our first store this year at 20a Saharova Street, which was one of our first Maxima XX format stores, and has now become our eighth largest-format Maxima XXX store, meaning that the public will be greeted back to their beloved store with an even larger assortment than before, as well as an environment adapted for modern demands and shopping habits. To also ensure a pleasant work environment for employees, we have introduced a range of the latest new solutions in both technical equipment and interiors to the fully rebuilt and modernised premises. Thanks to the large number of self-service checkouts, we can offer our shoppers faster, more comfortable shopping,” explains Maxima Latvija Board Member Valdis Zeps.
The Maxima store relaunched today has undergone extensive rebuilding, extending the premises by around 25%—from 9,752m2 to 12,466m2—of which 3,904m2 is taken up by the shopping area. The store has renewed interiors, new utilities, new energy-efficient LED lighting, modern ventilation equipment and environmentally-friendly refrigeration equipment which operates without freon and allows heat energy to be recaptured. In addition, the surrounding territory of 27,000m2 has been upgraded to include a large customer car park.
The store will provide 200 jobs, and the improvement of working conditions and increasing efficiency has been taken into particular consideration. The store has a rebuilt delivery zone which will now be fully enclosed with a roof, thus ensuring the delivery ramp is less dependent on the weather. Keeping up with digital developments, the store has been fitted with 38 interactive screens, as well as 18 hand scanners for work in the store and warehouses.
The store has also opened another Maxima Pārtikas Fabrika, which will operate daily to ensure that customers have access to fresh, delicious meals as well as various baked treats. And for fast, convenient purchasing, 12 standard checkouts and 32 self-service checkouts have been installed—so far the highest number in any Maxima store.
The newly-opened Maxima store will have a particularly large selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, a wide range of craft beers, and an expanded dairy produce area. The product range includes a wide selection of Meistara Marka to-go meals, as well as a cafe area which will prepare gyros and craft burgers to customers’ orders. The store has been fitted with standing tables to ensure customers can relax and enjoy their meal or coffee.
During the first few days, visitors will be greeted with a special programme over several days. On Thursday, January 9th, model and fitness trainer Paula Freimane will teach visitors how to make healthy smoothies, Klinta from Foodprep.lv will lead a cooking workshop, and Anna Panna will give a masterclass on making delicious treats. On Friday, January 10th, Laura Timoško will teach a masterclass on vitamin cocktails, and visitors will once again be able to cook with Klinta. Meanwhile, on Saturday, January 11th, Anna Panna will not only demonstrate her sweet treats, but also invites children to take part in a Maxima Kids’ Club candy workshop. Furthermore, during the opening festivities, shoppers will be greeted with special offers, a discount coupon wheel of fortune, as well as samples of various treats.
The premises will also be host to mobile operators Tele 2 and LMT, Dino Zoo, bookshop Jānis Roze, Optiluks optika, Eiroaptieka, pizzeria Can Can, Caif Cafe and many others.
