World’s Heaviest Pumpkin - Weighs as Much as a Car

October 24, 2018

In anticipation of the Latvian Pumpkin Championship on the 26th of October, Maxima Latvija has collected some world pumpkin records. Interestingly, the record for the world’s heaviest pumpkin to date reaches the weight of a car at 1190.68kg.

The record for the world’s heaviest pumpkin belongs to a pumpkin grown in Belgium, and was set at the 2016 European Pumpkin Championship in Ludwigsburg, Germany. The pumpkin’s weight was set at 1190.68kg, which is almost as heavy as some models of Mini Cooper. In comparison, the world’s heaviest pumpkin in 2017 weighed 1007.88kg; this record belongs to the same farmer in Belgium. Significantly, the past three years’ world’s largest pumpkins were raised by farmers from Europe.

In 2018, the record for biggest pumpkin so far is from the United States, reaching 1146.68kg. This is the heaviest recorded pumpkin in North American history. The giant pumpkin was grown in the state of New Hampshire. However, it must be said that autumn is not yet over.

Thirty pumpkins have applied for this year’s Latvian Pumpkin Championship, of which the ten largest will be placed on scales by strongmen to determine this year’s record holder. Latvia’s biggest pumpkin in history weighed 404kg; this record was set in 2016 by Elīza Neimane from Kuldīga county. This record was set in 2016.
