Maxima estblishes position in The Shopping Centre Segment

According to summer sales figures from the newest Maxima stores located in shopping centres demonstrate the stable growth of this sector. Both turnover and number of purchases at the Maxima XXX stores in the Domina Shopping mall and fashion and entertainment centre Rīga Plaza has increased - the total number of purchases in August in both stores grew by 6% compared with July’s results.

The Maxima XXX store located in Domina Shopping experienced noticeable growth throughout the whole summer. The number of purchases at this store grew by 4% in July this year compared with June’s figures, and in August the figure was 6% higher than in July. Furthermore, total turnover continued to grow significantly, with an increase of 8% in August compared with July’s figures. Clients have also enjoyed and appreciated the new store in the fashion and entertainment centre Riga Plaza, opened in June this year. There, the number of purchases in August grew by 2.6% compared with July, and turnover in August grew by 4.5%.

“Adapting our stores’ format to our customers’ wishes has justified itself. When comparing the most-purchased goods in the shopping centre segment to our smaller stores, Maxima X and Maxima Express, there is a noticeable demand for different product groups. If Most demanded products at smaller stores are snacks, ready meals and water, then customers at stores in shopping centres buy more everyday goods like fresh fruit, vegetables and dairy products. The most popular products this summer at both Maxima XXX stores were watermelons, bananas and new potatoes, as well as 5-litre bottles of drinking water,” comments Maxima Latvija Director of Purchasing Edvīns Lakstīgala.

Currently, Maxima Latvija has five XXX stores in its shopping centre sector; the newest, which was opened at the beginning of May this year in the fashion and entertainment centre Riga Plaza, has been fitted with the newest generation of technological solutions, a well-considered and modern interior, as well as a wide range of almost 33,000 products. The opening of new stores and reconstruction of existing ones is part of Maxima Latvija’s investment programme this year with a total investment of more than 23 million Euro. The goal of the investment is to improve the customer shopping experience. As part of the programme, 15 stores both within and outside of Riga will be reconstructed by the end of the year, in addition to the opening of at least 5 new stores of various formats throughout Latvia.
