People go shopping to grocery stores more often

Since 2017 the frequency of purchases has changed, according to the survey of the industry “Maxima Retail Compass”. Young people change their shopping habits the most - over the last two years, the number of respondents who shop at grocery stores more often has increased by 8.6 percentage points.
 
In the last two years, the residents of Riga have started shopping more often (increase by 2.6 percentage points), as well as the residents of Zemgale (increase by 2.1 percentage points). However, residents of Latgale started to do their daily purchases less frequently (decrease by 5.8 percentage points).
 
Head of Business Analytics Department of “Maxima Latvija” Zane Kaktiņa, points out that: “When comparing the surveys carried out, we can see that respondents' opinions on the most important criteria have changed significantly, when choosing food-stuffs. Buyers have become more conservative in their habits and the number of respondents who admit that they haven’t changed anything in their shopping process, has significantly increased (14.5 percentage points). At the same time, we observe that buyers are increasingly interested in their diet and choose healthier products.”
 
Compared to the beginning of the year, number of those respondents who admit that they are buying more and more fruits and vegetables increased by 1.3 percentage points. At the same time, the number of people who try to buy healthier products on a daily basis has increased by 3.1 percentage points.

The survey was undertaken in collaboration with the market and public opinion research company SKDS in April 2019. 1,005 respondents between the ages of 18 and 75 took part.
