Also 3 on 3 format hockey games took place during the event, finding the most skilled team in each group.

Edgars Buncis, the Sports Director of LHF (Latvian Hockey Federation), shares: “This season of the Latvian hockey championship for children and youth has passed. Emotions run high during this season, as it should be in children and youth’s sports. I am also very glad about the “Maxima Latvija” company’s idea to create a competition for the “Maxima Supercup”. That added more fire to the championship, which reflected also in the final fights for the top positions. This year we have jointly succeeded to undertake many new initiatives aimed at growth of young hockey players, the Goalkeeper Support Program being one of those. In the next season, we will continue putting our efforts into developing children and youth’s hockey, which certainly is one of the priorities of LHF.”

Andris Vilcmeiers, Chairman of the Board of “Maxima Latvia” says: “This is the first contest year of the “Maxima Supercup” established by us and LHF and we are very happy that, already in the first year, around 2500 young hockey players had the chance to compete for winner cups in each group. The goal of our collaboration is to promote development of children’s sports and to make ice hockey more available and attractive to children, which is why we will continue working on different projects in the next season to help us all reach this goal together!”

In total around 2500 children and young people in 102 teams of all age groups (from U9 to U17) participated in the 2018/2019 season of the Latvian hockey championship for children and youth. Throughout the season, young hockey players from hockey clubs of in total 13 regions (Riga, Mārupe, Daugavpils, Liepāja, Ogre, Brocēni, Jelgava, Ozolnieki, Jūrmala, Talsi, Tukums, Ventspils and Valmiera) participated in the competition for the “Maxima Supercup”.
