Christmas in Children’s Hospital

December 20, 2018

Today, December 20th, Father Christmas and his elves went to visit more than 500 young patients at the Children’s Clinical University Hospital in the Torņakalns and Gaiļezers complexes to help deliver some holiday spirit. As these children will be spending Christmas in the hospital, Father Christmas and his elves surprised each little patient with gifts and invited them to take part in a creative Christmas workshop making Christmas ornaments.

Early in the morning, Father Christmas—accompanied by his helpers, a fun, musical trio of elves—went to visit the young patients of the children’s hospital, visiting each ward and giving every child a specially prepared gift. After receiving their gifts, the children were greeted by the elves in the CCUH “Sunny Day Library” in Torņakalns, where each young patient was able to take part in creative workshops, making Christmas ornaments and greeting cards which each child could then give to other patients, doctors, nurses or parents.

“Every child is excited for Christmas, but no one would be happy to spend the holiday season in the hospital. For children, this is a struggle both in terms of their health and various procedures, as well as in terms of the missed Christmas events at school or kindergarten which they had prepared for. That’s why it’s especially important to look after the wellbeing of children in the hospital, and we are extremely thankful and pleased that, for the second year now, “Maxima Latvija” has taken care of creating a wonderful Christmas for our little patients,” reveals Liene Dambiņa, Head of the Children’s Hospital Fund.

“Christmas is a time that children especially look forward to, so we are pleased that we were able to provide some holiday spirit to make this Christmas brighter for those young patients who, for health reasons, cannot be at home for the holiday. We are grateful to the Children’s Clinical University Hospital for the opportunity to bring joy to children and their families, as well as the hospital staff this Christmas,” explains Jānis Beseris, Head of Communications at “Maxima Latvija”.
